Acts of kindness did not decline during the pandemic. In fact, they have risen

As this example illustrates, kindness has not declined during the pandemic — it has risen. The 2022 World Happiness Report shows that volunteering, donating to charity, and especially helping a stranger were more frequent in 2021 than before the pandemic. Perhaps most importantly, recognizing the kindness of others makes you more likely to return someone else’s wallet. Such acts of kindness not only restore a stranger’s lost belongings — they may also rekindle their faith in humanity. Lara Aknin is an associate professor of psychology at Simon Fraser University, a co-editor of the World Happiness Report, and former fellow with the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR).
