Max Julien, well known for his major role in the blaxploitation classic “The Mack” from 1973, passed away on Saturday. Julien and Richard Pryor co-starred in “The Mack,” which was released in 1973. Julien also worked as a screenwriter and producer, starring in 1974 western “Thomasine & Bushrod” in both roles. For his work on the film, he was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for best writer of the year. Julien also created one of the most enduring characters of the blaxploitation era, Cleopatra Jones, in the 1973 film “Cleopatra Jones,” starring Tamara Dobson.
