MIRI: A health and environment activist in Miri has blamed the recent spate of open burning on landowners. “The bushfire in Tudan was the largest, followed by the ones at the Marina area and Pulau Melayu. “We suspect that these fires were deliberate acts of open burning,” he said in his report. Firemen managed to douse the bushfires to ensure they did not spread and cause damage to property, said Supt Law. Dr Uma said the fires could cause worse damage once the weather gets drier in the coming weeks.
