New Zealand Football acting president Phil Barry has resigned from the organisation's executive committee, with next week's annual congress to be his last. Stuff understands a majority of the game's voting members weren't prepared to elect him to the presidency on a permanent basis and that contributed to his sudden decision to stand down, one year into a four-year term. The previous ExCo president, Deryck Shaw, resigned last October shortly after Muir's public findings were released, "to allow football to move forward," a decision he made after seeking feedback from the voting members. NZ Football has 11 voting members - the seven regional federations, which hold 14 of the 18 votes, the Wellington Phoenix, the national men's league clubs as a collective, the players' association, and the match officials' association. In a statement issued by NZ Football on Friday, Barry said ExCo had steadied the ship at the governing body since the release of the Muir review and Shaw's departure.
