The wise course is to make corrections to avoid a disconnect with the people. In a first-past-the-post system, that 31 per cent was sufficient to give the party a majority in the Lok Sabha. My guess is that on each of these issues the government had (or has) the support of less than 31 per cent. What the 31 per cent and the 69 per cent will do is not predictable. Do you approve of the Prime Minister’s comment that MGNREGA was “a monument to the failure of the Congress party”?
