The coronavirus crisis has shown how poor the country’s healthcare system is, eminent jurist Shahdeen Malik said, presiding over the webinar. Shahdeen also came down heavily on Health Minister Zahid Maleque for the debacle and irregularities in the health sector. ”If all involved in the health sector are not brought under accountability the already dwindling health sector will be a tough one to revive,” he said. Transparency International, Bangladesh, Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman, said the government was busy covering up corruption in the health sector rather than curbing the irregularities reported. On a separate note, he said donor agencies funding different projects, including those in the health sector, cannot avoid responsibility for the irregularities.
