VATICAN CITY—The Vatican on Saturday published updated rules on the authentication and conservation of the body parts of saints, which Catholics venerate as holy relics, addressing the growing problem of the sale of such items on online platforms as well as their use in sacrilegious rites. For millennia, Catholics have venerated relics because the body of a deceased holy person is considered to have been a “living temple of the Holy Spirit” during his or her time on earth.
