Still without one of their top power play weapons, the Stars and coach Pete DeBoer are experimenting with different formations. Jason Robertson remains an unsigned restricted free agent, preventing the Stars from forming complete power play units but allowing them to test things out during the preseason. The idea that Hintz could play another spot on the power play could give the Stars flexibility to move pieces around once Robertson does join the team. Last year and thus far in the preseason, Hintz has played on the half-wall, but the Stars face a logjam there now. So if the Stars want to put Robertson back on the flank, someone else will have to move.
