The Abhayarama Temple in Narahenpita served as the unofficial headquarters of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) when it operated as the Joint Opposition (JO) in Parliament during the previous Yahapalana Government. However, the Abhayarama Temple is now being frequented by another political party – the United National Party (UNP), which was once the largest political party in the country. UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe chose the Abhayarama Temple for his first visit to engage in religious observances after being sworn into Parliament.
