Abdirahman Abdi death anniversary spotlights Black Lives Matter awakening

Hundreds of people gathered in Hintonburg on Friday evening to mark the anniversary of Abdirahman Abdi's death. "George Floyd, that was eight minutes and 46 seconds of his death that was recorded," said Dahabo Ahmed-Omer from the Justice for Abdirahman coalition. The officer has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon in connection to Abdi's death. Dahabo Ahmed-Omer from the Justice for Abdirahman coalition said not enough has changed since July 24, 2016, when Abdi’s family and neighbours witnessed his death. (Robyn Miller/CBC)Like many members of Abdi's family and the coalition, Ahmed-Omer regularly attended the proceedings, which she said was emotionally trying.
