Four fire engines were called to an abandoned house engulfed in flames, on Kāpiti Rd in Paraparaumu, at 7.23pm, a Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said. A police spokeswoman said there was smoke in the area and officers had been called to help control traffic on Kāpiti Rd. Part of Kāpiti Rd, between Brett Ambler Way and Arawhata Rd, had been closed off, the spokeswoman said.
