The African Wrestling Championships started on Wednesday at at the Alfred Diette Spiff Events Centre, Port Harcourt, with Nigeria cadet wrestler dominating the free style event. Esther Kolawole from ondo statre won gold in the freestyle event, while Christiana Ogunsanya and Mercy Adekuoroye have qualified for the semifinal of their respective events. However, Sunmisola Balogun, another Ondo wrestler won two bouts to qualify for the final in her cadet event on Wednesday. Daniel Igali, the President, Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), said that the federation has taken measures to ensure a successful competition. Some of the dignitaries on ground included: Fouad Meskout, the President, United World Wrestling Africa, Prince Sualley, the President, Sierra Leone Wrestling Federation and Vincent Akesse, a member of the United World Wrestling Federation.
