ASUP may end strike this week

There is strong indication that the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) will end this week, as the meeting at the instance of Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige and the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu with the striking workers have agreed to produce a Memorandum of Action (MoA) towards final resolution of the crisis. Sources within ASUP said that the polytechnic teachers are waiting for the other party (government) to sign the MoA and then later present it to their organ for consideration. After this process might have been concluded early in the week, the source said the strike might be called off to give the government the benefit of doubt in its implementation. ASUP had on November 13, 2017 begun an indefinite strike, following failure of government to address its demands. Others are non release of CONTISS 15 migration arrears, Infractions in the appointment of rectors, and continued victimisation of union officers.
