ASK concerned over zero progress in Sagar-Runi murder case after six years

Rights watchdog Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) has expressed grave concern over the failure of investigators in making any visible progress in their investigation in the case over the murders of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi after six years. “In the last six years, the law enforcement agencies extended their deadline more than 50 times for the submission of the probe report before the court but the investigators have still failed to do so,” reads a press statement issued by ASK on Sunday. ASK fears the failure to find a breakthrough in the case will promote the culture of impunity and further decrease people’s trust in the judiciary. Sagar Sarwar was a news editor at Maasranga TV while Meherun Runi was a senior reporter at ATN Bangla when they were brutally murdered inside their apartment in Dhaka on February 11, 2012.
