On the global trade issue and rising protectionism, the Philippine consul general stressed that ASEAN will remain strong and united, and will continue to promote a free, fair, and rules-based trading system. Meanwhile, the Philippine consulate in Hong Kong is strengthening its collaboration with the island’s immigration authorities to combat crimes such as illegal migration, bogus marriages, and document fraud. The Consulate General has established quarterly technical working group meetings with Hong Kong’s Immigration and Labor departments to resolve pending issues, review individual cases, and identify and sort out potential problem areas in policies affecting the more than 228,000 Filipinos living in the territory.
