Activists of the ruling Awami League and its affiliate organizations have occupied key points of Dhaka city to stop BNP supporters from demonstrating. Several ruling party leaders have told the Dhaka Tribune that they will keep occupying the streets all through Thursday as their higher-ups told them to. Hundreds of BNP supporters have been detained ahead of the verdict scheduled for Thursday. Shah Alam Murad and Sadek Khan, general secretaries of Awami League’s Dhaka north and south units respectively, said the ruling party activists had gathered at every bus terminal, shopping malls and other key areas as per their direction. “We will be on the road to save the people from the BNP’s anarchy,” said Rafiqul Islam Babla, general secretary of Awami League’s Dhanmondi unit.
