‘Sulur’ R. Kanakaraj, the AIADMK MLA from Sulur, died of cardiac arrest on Thursday morning. Party functionaries said Kanagaraj collapsed and died while reading a newspaper at his residence in Vadambacherry village near Sultanpet in Sulur. With the death of the first-time MLA, the vacancy in the Assembly has increased to 22. Fifth MLA to dieIn the past two-and-a-half years, Seenivel and AK Bose (both elected on AIADMK ticket from Tirupparankundram); Jayalalithaa (R.K. Nagar); and Karunanidhi (Tiruvarur) had died. Velumani, Deputy Speaker Pollachi V. Jayaraman and senior party functionaries paid homage to the MLA at his house near Sulur in the evening.
