Pedestrians and motorists in Subang Jaya, Selangor, can look forward to safer streets following the rollout of smart traffic lights. Smart Sensor Awareness (Sensa) system, introduced by Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) last month, is a pedestrian detection and warning tool. It uses artificial intelligence to improve safety, especially in high-risk areas and near schools. “The system is capable of automatically detecting the presence of pedestrians and activating real-time audio and visual warnings for drivers and pedestrians,” MBSJ Corporate and Strategic Management Department said in a statement. “Its implementation using solar energy is in line with the aspirations of the smart city concept and the city council’s commitment to being a low-carbon city,” the department added.
