AG put to task over Kyanguli fire victims’ pay

By SAMWEL OWINOMore by this AuthorThe National Assembly wants Attorney General Paul Kihara to explain why 18 years down the line, victims and survivors of the Kyanguli Secondary School fire tragedy are yet to be compensated. House Justice and Legal Affairs committee, in their report, said the High Court awarded the fire victims and survivors Sh40, 950,000 in March 2016. To address the Kyanguli and other pending cases, the committee plans to set up a fund to settle court awards against the government. “When will the committee tell us when the victims will be compensated,” asked Mr Mbui. In March 2001, Kyanguli Secondary School experienced one of the worst cases of student unrest in the country.
