The national chief of the Assembly of First Nations says he's shocked by Hunter Tootoo's resignation. AFN National Chief Perry Bellegarde said Wednesday in Winnipeg that he was shocked but wishes the Nunavut MP well. Tootoo became the second Inuk to be appointed as a senior cabinet minister after defeating Conservative Leona Aglukkaq in the 2015 federal election. Aglukkaq was the first Inuk appointed as a senior cabinet minister. He previously served as an MLA and a cabinet minister in the Nunavut Legislature.
