PETALING JAYA: The status of the Asian Cup Group B opening round match between North Korea and Malaysia slated for March 28 in Pyongyang, will be decided by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) competitions committee this week. The statement was posted on the AFC website on Tuesday. The AFC received a request from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to have the qualifier against North Korea in Pyongyang played at a neutral venue. The national team are scheduled to play North Korea at the Kim Il-sung Stadium in Pyongyang on March 28 but the Government has barred the team from going there, citing security reasons. FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said they have a strong reason to request the AFC for a neutral venue and not have to worry about FIFA sanctions over government interference.
