Friday, July 15, 2016 AFA announces final list of playersStriker Calleri leaves São Paulo and joins national squadThe Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced yesterday the final 18-player list for the under-23 national squad that will compete in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next month. Striker Calleri, who played his last match in São Paulo of Brazil on Wednesday, will be one of the last players to join the squad. The former Boca Juniors’ forward was called up for the national team after Villarreal did not allow Luciano Vietto to join the squad. Calleri, 22, scored in Wednesday’s match against Atlético Nacional of Colombia in the Libertadores Cup semifinal, but São Paulo was eliminated after losing 4-1 on aggregate. Also, four players were chosen as alternatives in case some of the 18 players suffer an injury: goalkeeper Ezequiel Unsain, defender Nicolás Tripicchio, midfielder Martín Benítez and forward Cristian Pavón.
