ADB to provide $50m to develop Bangladeshi microenterprises

ADB signed an agreement with Bangladesh for the loan on Tuesday. Monowar Ahmed, secretary for the Economic Relations Divisions (ERD); and Manmohan Parkash, country director for ADB, signed the agreement on behalf of Bangladesh and ADB, respectively, at a ceremony held in Dhaka. ADB's loan should assist microenterprises in accessing financing through the Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF)—an apex development finance and capacity-building organization—and its partner organizations. "The greatest constraint in developing microenterprises in Bangladesh is the limited access to finance," Manmohan Parkash said at the ceremony. It will also assist in clustering microenterprises to expand business and improve—with quality control—branding, packaging, and marketing.
