AARP Thanks Congress For "Modest" Omnibus Bill Increases

America’s largest special interest group for Americans over 50—AARP—is praising the actions of President Donald Trump and Congress today for the passage of the omnibus bill for what it can potentially do for the organizations more than 38 million members. Congressional leaders, on Wednesday night, unveiled a new omnibus bill—a massive $1.3 trillion, 2,232-page government spending bill—the result of months of negotiations. The president signed the bill today which covers everything from defense to border security to opioids. Trump backed down from an earlier threat on Twitter to veto the bill, citing its failure to take care of young, undocumented immigrants known as “Dreamers” and fund a border wall. At that time, he also told Congress, “I will never sign another bill like this again,” and called on them to give him a line-item veto.
