Israeli ambassador Amir Maimon met with senior leaders of the Jewish community last Thursday, at a briefing jointly hosted by Zionism Victoria (ZV) and the Jewish Community Council of Victoria (JCCV). As well as detailing his personal journey, including overseeing the airlift of 15,000 Ethiopian Jews to Israel and serving as Israel’s first ambassador to Lithuania, he reflected on his aims of promoting Israel and engaging with the Jewish community, but also engaging with other communities, in particular the Indigenous community. ZV president Yossi Goldfarb said, “It was a pleasure to hear from the ambassador both at the briefing and our Parliamentary Yom Ha’atzmaut reception the night before. We share many of the same goals and look forward to working with him to achieve them.”Noting that Maimon prefers to be addressed by his first name, JCCV president Daniel Aghion said, “He has an informal and friendly approach and it was wonderful for community leaders to meet and chat with him. “The informal environment allowed us to all get to know each other better.”Get The AJN Newsletter by email and never miss our top stories Free Sign Up
