It raises questions for Ontario and Alberta as the provinces look to raise their minimum wages to $15 over the next couple years. Meanwhile, states and cities around the country are continuing to implement increases in the minimum wage. The minimum wage did not substantially affect how many people were working in the industry or how many hours they were working. Increases in the minimum wage might just have been part of the cost of doing business. Vigdor agreed that the effects of increasing the minimum wage could differ by time and place.
