A tropical storm has left four dead, five missing in Vietnam

HANOI -- At least four people are dead and five are missing after Tropical Storm Talas hit Vietnam's central province, an official spokesman said Tuesday. More than 4,000 houses had their roofs blown off, with the worst affected province Nghe An, 320 kilometers southwest of Hanoi. The storm also sank over 50 boats and damaged nearly 50,000 hectares of paddy fields and vegetables, Hoai added. Throughout Monday, Talas battered Vietnam's central provinces, with wind gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour, the country's National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said. Heavy downpours also hit the country's central and northern provinces during the storm, with 400 millimeters of rain falling in the past two days in some areas, the center said.
