Man of the WestMike was born in 1946 in Fontana, San Bernandino County, in the Inland Empire region east of Los Angeles. He finally made a serious re-entry into the academy in the mid-1970s, studying at the University of California, Los Angeles, on a butchers’ union scholarship.
