A third of aged care residents neglected and up to one in six abused, Royal Commission finds

One in three aged care residents in Australia suffers neglect with awful accounts of 'dog-food-like' meals and sexual violence in a damning Royal Commission report. Some $32 million will go to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission and more regulation on the use of restraints in care. Aged Care Minister Richard Colbeck said the royal commission had made him question how the system works in Australia. 'It is concerning the royal commissioners did not provide a unanimous and clear position of how aged care should be funded in future,' said Pat Sparrow from the Australian Aged Care Collaboration, which represents more than 1000 providers. 'Funding is what supports the employment of more care staff, better trained care staff, better paid care staff and better facilities for residents.'
