Ballerina Bei-Di Sheng was a rising star in the National Ballet of Canada when she posed for this award-winning shot at Vesta Lunch by Star photographer Richard Lautens. Bei was a star: she had become a soloist with the National Ballet of Canada by 19 and had been promoted to principal dancer. Ballet was in her blood: both of her parents had been dancers with the National Ballet of China. By 35, she was vice-president of SAP, a multinational software company, and chair of the Business Women’s Network. Bei still misses ballet, but she leans on the lessons learned from her time onstage: “Dance taught me I could achieve anything.”
