By Doug LaingThe naming of finalists for the Halberg Awards invokes quite some debate across the sporting sphere as to what really makes the supreme award winner. But as unfair, perhaps, as the All Blacks not getting much of a look-in this year, possibly because of too much success. No criticism intended of the Halberg Awards organisation, but really a call for a greater degree of chest-thumping. But of the 95 "sport types" listed by Sport NZ, barely a third nominated. The Awards dinner on February 9 may claim to be a celebration of all New Zealand sport.
