Widely regarded as a global leader in green and sustainable chemistry, Professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff, a British chemist, had an engagement session for students of private and international schools from the Klang Valley at Petrosains, the Discovery Centre, in KLCC recently. With a shock of silvery white hair and thick-rimmed glasses, Poliakoff could have easily passed off as that great fellow scientist from afar. He had an aptitude for chemistry and had taken all the exams on chemistry at school by the time he was 16. Today, Poliakoff is an ambassador for UK Science in his role as vice-president and foreign secretary of the Royal Society. The school engagement session is a collaborative effort by Petrosains, The University of Nottingham Institute for Policy and Engagement, and the British Council Fame Lab.
