A new work by Canadian theatre stalwart Daniel MacIvor, a remount of Djanet Sears’ award-winning Harlem Duet, the Toronto debut of a Canadian-made Edinburgh Fringe hit and an Inuit epic are highlights of Tarragon Theatre’s new season. First up on Sept. 18 is Harlem Duet, which won the Governor General’s Literary Award for Sears. The critically acclaimed “prequel” to Shakespeare’s Othello first debuted at Tarragon in 1997. It transplants the story to Harlem, where a college professor leaves his grad student wife for a white colleague. MacIvor, a Siminovitch Prize and Governor General’s Award winner known for his darkly comic solo shows, brings New Magic Valley Fun Town to Toronto (Feb. 20, 2019).
