A remarkable record of the road to independence

The Military Service (1916-1923) Pensions Collection is widely recognised as a unique record of the individuals and organisations who brought about our Independence and led to the foundation of the State. This includes members of the Irish Volunteers, the Irish Citizen Army, the Hibernian Rifles, Cumann na mBan, Na Fianna Éireann and the Irish Republican Army from the period April 1916 to September 30th, 1923. It is much larger than any other archival collections covering the period from the Rising to the end of the Civil War. The quality of the information that is contained in the files is also remarkable. This Irish Times supplement provides an opportunity to introduce the collection to a wider audience.
