Star Wars, Ant Man, Interstellar -- with all the hype surrounding it, what exactly is “quantum” computing? Let me first clarify by saying that a quantum computer is not just a more powerful version of a classical computer -- it’s different technology altogether. Superposition and entanglement are what give quantum computers the ability to process so much more information so much faster than a classical computer. And after seeing the potential of IBM, the research arms of Microsoft, Intel, and Google are developing quantum computing too. At the moment, quantum computers still have a long way to go before they can reach “quantum supremacy” over a classical computer.
