A plea from the refugees

Recently, bilateral talks have taken place between the government of Myanmar and Bangladesh regarding refugee repatriation. This particular law will continue to create an outflow of refugees which over-burdens other countries and creates threats to peace and tranquility within the region. Apart from UNHCR, Bangladesh, and Myanmar, representatives of the refugees or community leaders should be included in the repatriation dialogue. Unfortunately, in both the agreements (1978 and 1992), the refugees were not accepted as citizens of Myanmar, instead, the technical term “Myanmar residents” was used. The authors are registered refugees of Nayapara and Kutupalong Registered Refugee Camps, Teknaf, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
