A phlegmy family history of coughing123RF The writer has a long family history of coughing. You see, my family has a history of coughing and apparently I'm the latest victim. He was a long-term pipe smoker, a habit he started before World War II when it was fashionable and rather dapper for a young man to smoke a pipe. And it means that when my nose stops running, the coughing will stop too. And then, maybe I can start to believe that I've cheated history and the dreaded the family cough has passed me by, at least this time.
