A Carnival activity meant to have fun together was the result when a switch started the countdown for travel, tourism and the ball to drop. In flipping the switch, the New Years Eve Ball at Times Square in Manhattan started the countdown for a travel, tourism and a new year of cruising the world in 2023. The Times Square Alliance, founded in 1992, works to improve and promote Times Square – cultivating the creativity, energy and edge that have made the area an icon of entertainment, culture and urban life for over a century. In addition to providing core neighborhood services with its Public Safety Officers and Sanitation Associates, the Alliance:Promotes local businessesEncourages economic development and public improvementsCo-coordinates numerous major events in Times Square, including the annual New Year’s Eve and Solstice in Times Square celebrationsCurates and presents public art projects throughout the district via Times Square Arts. At the same time, the iconic ball was lit in Times Square, and nearly 100,000 guests on board Carnival ships fleetwide also kicked off celebrations to ring in the new year.
