JAKARTA (ANN): President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo was right to order security agencies to take stern action against rioters in Jakarta last week. A case in point is the very incident in Kampung Bali. However, reports of police brutality, not only in Kampung Bali, but also in other places during the riots, show that the force needs to improve its professionalism. We are not savages who believe in the law of the jungle. We are a nation of rule of law that believes in human rights — that every citizen has the right to a fair trial and protection from any form of torture, regardless of the crime.
