Regarding Christine Emba’s Dec. 16 op-ed, “Ryan’s economic remedy: Have more babies,” and the Dec. 21 letters “Mr. Ryan’s bad baby fever”:House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) seems to think he can tell women to have more babies. But there is a far easier fix for the country’s future demographic quandary: Allow more immigration, welcome far more refugees, and put many new resources into improving public education. The country would get a new, younger workforce, and Social Security and Medicare funding would be greatly improved. This last will occur regardless of immigration and regardless of the opinion of Mr. Ryan.
