A massive winter storm will spread heavy snow and ice across a 2,000-mile stretch from the Southern Plains and Southwest to the East Coast starting Friday. Winter storm watches stretch 1,700 miles from eastern Arizona to Virginia and North Carolina, and will soon be expanded all the way to the Delmarva Peninsula and southern New England. “We’re about to witness a truly legendary winter storm setup in the Southern U.S. later this week,” wrote Defense Department meteorologist Eric Webb. The faster that storm moves ashore, the farther north this major winter storm will push. South of the snow line, a dangerous ice storm may unfold from Texas to the Carolinas.
