A man was told he needed $1259 dental fillings. Suspicious, he did an experiment

Australian man Marc Pelletier, 33, has always prided himself on taking meticulous care of his teeth, so when he was told at a dental check-up he needed A$1200 (NZ$1259) worth of fillings, he grew suspicious. He saw a second dentist without telling him about the earlier consultation and the resulting "wild" difference in opinion left him in shock. LOUIE DOUVIS/SYDNEY MORNING HERA Marc Pelletier became suspicious when he was told he needed $1200 worth of dental work. Pelletier's experience also raises important questions about whether the rise of corporate chains, such as ASX-list 1300Smiles, has led to overtreament in dental patients. The second dentist from Pacific Smiles, also ASX listed, also took an X-ray and ultimately recommended against the "unnecessary" fissure sealing, saying it could work itself out.
