Japanese officials are investigating after a shipwreck with five human bodies and two human heads on board washed up on the shores of a local island. A grisly sight awaited them when the ship was boarded — three bodies with heads intact, two headless bodies, and two heads without bodies. The men on board told Japanese officials that they had lost control of the boat as it drifted into Japanese waters. Consequently, it’s not uncommon to find such boats washed up on Japanese shores with dead or missing crew. The vessels have been dubbed “ghost ships” by local media, and strained relations between North Korea and Japan have complicated efforts to investigate such cases.
