We welcome Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena to Bangladesh, who is here on his first official visit since he was elected in 2015. There is much to gain from greater friendship and cooperation with the neighbouring island nation — with some 10 agreements and MoUs on the table to be signed. Much headway can be made in the areas of agricultural cooperation, higher education, coastal shipping connected, visa exemptions for diplomats and official passport holders, as well as cooperation in investment, between our two central banks, and the media. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka certainly have much in common, and this friendship can only go from strength to strength.
