The 78-year-old man said he had not missed a single day coming to the sundry shop since it opened in 1957. Cheah said he was only 16 when his father started the sundry shop business. “In the 1960s, instant noodles were imported and cost almost double a bowl of noodles on the street. “Today, we produce instant noodles locally and the price is lower,” he said. Cheah said it wasn’t easy for him to let go of the business which has become a part of his life.
