A different sort of war film: Christopher Nolan's triumphant Dunkirk

It's a German dive bomber, zeroing in on the hundreds of men, waiting on the shores of Dunkirk for rescue. This is just one of a series of striking images from director Christopher Nolan. But Dunkirk is nothing like Interstellar, The Dark Knight or Inception because this is no fantastical tale. A trio of British Spitfire planes head off to the French coast, in one of the three segments director Christopher Nolan explores in Dunkirk. Carrying wounded soldiers or hanging onto a barely floating bit of wreckage, the only thing that matters is getting off that sand.
