A day after system outage, Delta flight cancellations continue

A spokesman for Georgia Power said the utility’s officials believe a failure of Delta equipment caused the airline's power outage. Last month, the average Delta flight was 87% full. Delta Air Lines' travails, and those of its customers, moved into day two with the airline canceling nearly 250 flights Tuesday. The cancellations followed about 1,000 canceled flights and almost 3,000 delayed flights Monday after an outage at the carrier’s Atlanta headquarters initiated a global meltdown of its booking and communications systems. Delta spokesman Trebor Banstetter said that after the power outage early Monday at the company's Atlanta headquarters, some key systems and network equipment did not switch over to backup systems.
