Council staff have been followed and called names as they walk about at weekends. Keyboard bullies have emerged, using fake identities to post inaccurate and insulting information about local people, elected representatives and council staff on social media. Derogatory emails were sent to council officials that eventually prompted Fingal's chief executive to intervene and request her staff be shown respect. This unwarranted attack on council executives by an elected representative is just another sad incident in this nasty campaign. In the meantime, New Street is to be opened to one-way traffic in the coming weeks, and, while many are happy with the eventual outcome, a lot more are saddened at how the community has been divided.
