A bid for Expo 2025 is a bid for better health

According to the World Bank, Harvard School of Public Health and many public health experts worldwide, feeling we are part of a city that is able to get things done is good for our health. From the viewpoint of the social determinants of health the argument for a bid for Expo 2025 becomes even more compelling. Overcrowding impacts health, housing with mould increases asthma, infestations increase the risk of disease and infection, and poor maintenance causes accidents. The discussion I hear about Expo 2025 encapsulates something that bemuses me about Toronto. The legacy projects would include social housing, improved international networks, new businesses and an enhanced position on the world stage.
