A Third Of Americans Would Rather Skip The Holidays

Thirty-three percent of Americans say they wish they could skip the holiday season rather than spend money on gifts, according to a recent survey from Mr. Cooper, a non-bank mortgage servicer. “It’s not surprising that people are saying they want to skip the whole holiday gift thing altogether,” says Courtney Jesperson, consumer savings expert for NerdWallet. “Fifty-six percent of those who shopped during the 2016 season took on credit card debt,” Jesperson says. That said, you can find some deals on things when it gets close to Christmas, but you must plan ahead. Or offer to get together for dinner or a holiday outing rather than exchanging gifts.
